The West has its own share of barbarism - the Crusade, the witch hunt, the Spanish Inquisition. It takes many years, many bright minds, and many blood sheds, for the West to become what it is today. If it takes the West hundreds of years to become civilized, it is naive to think China can make similar progress in our life time.

Seeing the problems in China today, and subsequently blaming the Chinese culture as the cause is a failure to appreciate the fact that changing a nation is a work of generations.

To me, 鍾祖康 simply lacks the persistence and patience to transform an nation.esbullbearhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09552676026469762949noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12868610.post-55405913058484624562010-04-26T02:50:03.679+08:002010-04-26T02:50:03.679+08:00To Anonymous

The author did not say that 100% of all Chinese fit this observation NOR is he claiming that what he said is scientific. OK, even of the author has no statistics to support it, does it mean that China can be complacent and not radically change its culture? 2000 years China was going in circles. Since Tang Dynasty it was on a downward spiral. The 4 great inventions, so what ? China is now among the most polluted most extreme in rich/poor gap, and the ONLY "civilization" that practiced cannibalism. Is this not exclusive enough ? Chinese is also the only civilization to render half its people handicapped (纏足) and illiterate.

(2) Even if the problems are not exclusively Chinese, does it mean we can be satisfied because, e.g. Europeans have it too? This is simply Red Herring or Tu Quoque fallacy -- i.e. others have it so these problems we can treat it less seriously OR ignore it ?

If reading this book is to raise our awareness to critical thinking, then you better brush up YOUR logic!

For certain we should NOT trust our own school system's education about China -- always stressing the "sunny side" of things.大黃傻貓GARFIELDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03076802459043571276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12868610.post-37586984165630995642010-04-26T02:23:17.708+08:002010-04-26T02:23:17.708+08:00To anonymous: Europeans was able to dump all these...To anonymous: Europeans was able to dump all these tortures, made their correctional system so much more humane -- we Chinese stayed in the equivalent or worst form than the Medieval times of Europe.大黃傻貓GARFIELDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03076802459043571276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12868610.post-41771253783492312912010-04-25T23:36:56.980+08:002010-04-25T23:36:56.980+08:00That being said, I've not made up my mind on t...That being said, I've not made up my mind on to trust the author's judgment yet

(Still haven't finished his 來生不做中國人)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12868610.post-81406187134476977382010-04-25T23:35:19.796+08:002010-04-25T23:35:19.796+08:00Two Questions:
